The following story is re-posted from The Simpsons Wiki

Izzy's Deli is a restaurant and deli in Springfield's Lower East Side. They have several sandwiches named after celebrities, including one named after Krusty the Clown.

The owner of the deli was one of several restaurant proprietors in Springfield who plotted to assassinate Homer for giving their restaurants bad reviews.

This is based on the real Izzy's Deli in Cincinnati, Ohio, famous for the complimentary pickles Bart references. You can see Izzy Kadetz (the real owner) behind the counter, and his wife Rose is the waitress. They were famous for arguing with each other and being snarky with customers as mentioned by Rose when she responds to Bart sarcastically, "Watch how fast I go" as she mosies away from their table. Their menu is emblazoned with the actual old-style logo from the restaurant. It still exists today and has many additional locations in the Cincinnati area.

  • “Love Izzy's Reuben's and Potato Cakes. This is the closest to my house. I live in Goshen but it's worth the drive. Had to make a special trip there for St. Paddy's Day. Great customer service. And great food. They have the best Potato Cakes in town.”

    Adrienne J. ★★★★★

  • “Pickles!!  Potato Cakes!!  Pastrami!!  Paradise!! There is just NOT a better sandwich shop to be found!! ”

  • “Was in the area shooting a wedding and wanted to eat something different then the same old stuff. Looked on Yelp and saw the great reviews so we tried it out. Food was great, staff was funny, and the price was perfect for what we got. Next time we are in Cincinnati we will have to stop by again. Give it a shot and go for the Ruben its great!”

    Tad C. ★★★★★

  • “Mmm Reubens! I come here for a quick lunch and they are super friendly and prompt. I like to get the reuben salad. It is quite large and a very cool take on the traditional sandwich. It is jam packed with "good" lettuce, sauerkraut, grated swiss cheese, corned beef, chopped pickles, and topped with their homemade thousand island dressing. The cool finishing touch is rye bread croutons which seem to be homemade. They also have good sweet tea! ”

  • “Great little downtown spot for family...Very friendly staff and good food!”

    Sharon Z. ★★★★★

  • “Izzy's is a great place. a staple of downtown Cincy. They are known for their Ruben. However I recommend the Izzy's Mex (spicier Ruben) or "The Suzzy" which is turkey and cranberry-orange relish with cream cheese... it's better than it sounds.”

  • “Not only was the service fast but friendly. The Izzy special..on point. Thank you so much ”

  • “Longtime fans "love" this landmark Cincinnati deli with locations throughout the city serving "hearty", "overstuffed" sandwiches (particularly the "terrific" Reuben) along with "famous" pickles and "second-to-none" potato pancakes; although the decor reminds some of a grade-school lunchroom, it's affordable and the staff is "a hoot."

  • “Izzys always has good sandwiches, particularly any Reuben variation because the sauerkraut is always crisp and tart. The pickles are the real star though, and we inhale as many as possible every time we visit. The potato pancakes are unique and definitely worth a try - particularly if you are expecting something like a hash brown patty or a soft doughy cake. ”
