Izzy's on The Simpsons

The following story is re-posted from The Simpsons Wiki

Izzy's Deli is a restaurant and deli in Springfield's Lower East Side. They have several sandwiches named after celebrities, including one named after Krusty the Clown.

The owner of the deli was one of several restaurant proprietors in Springfield who plotted to assassinate Homer for giving their restaurants bad reviews.

This is based on the real Izzy's Deli in Cincinnati, Ohio, famous for the complimentary pickles Bart references. You can see Izzy Kadetz (the real owner) behind the counter, and his wife Rose is the waitress. They were famous for arguing with each other and being snarky with customers as mentioned by Rose when she responds to Bart sarcastically, "Watch how fast I go" as she mosies away from their table. Their menu is emblazoned with the actual old-style logo from the restaurant. It still exists today and has many additional locations in the Cincinnati area.

  • “Had some quests from Columbus area and Andrian, MI and wanted to take them to a "local" restaurant. My grandson and I decided Izzy's in Forest Park was the choice. They LOVED it. First the delicious pickles and then the famous Ruben and potato pancake. The waitress was great, very friendly and we enjoyed her conversation with our questions. They were very impressed with the food and her. I wish I knew her name but she was the only waitress there. Then even bought a jar of pickles to take home.”

  • “Im a big fan. I had lunch on a weekday and it was 90% full. The service was excellent.  It was my first time and everyone was very patient and explained what that Izzy is known for their reuben. The Reuben was amazing. The pickles were also amazing. I would recommend Izzys to my friends. ”

  • “Amazing!!! My second day coming back for lunch. Both corned beef and pastrami. Potato pancakes are delicious with a bit of green onion. Must, must stop if you are even close!!! Great service. ”

  • “Mmm Reubens! I come here for a quick lunch and they are super friendly and prompt. I like to get the reuben salad. It is quite large and a very cool take on the traditional sandwich. It is jam packed with "good" lettuce, sauerkraut, grated swiss cheese, corned beef, chopped pickles, and topped with their homemade thousand island dressing. The cool finishing touch is rye bread croutons which seem to be homemade. They also have good sweet tea! ”
