April 18, 2011: The Izzy’s Family lost one of its own this past weekend.  David S. Kadetz, 70, passed away Saturday at his home.  David was the third generation owner of Izzy’s Restaurants in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.  He was also the past President of Cincinnati Athletic Club.

He learned first hand from his parents, Izzy and Rose Kadetz and grandfather David Kadetz about hard work and taking care of the customers.

David took over the helm of Izzy’s in 1980, maintaining the wonderful tradition of his family to “Always be friendly to the customer, because that’s who pays your salary. “  David helped grow Izzy’s from the single store on Elm Street to the nine locations today. He is responsible for finding the current Izzy’s President, John Geisen.  David noticed Mr. Geisen working as a tradesman during construction of their second store.  He thought he had the personality to be a success in the business.

“Today is a sad day for Izzy’s family.  David was an amazing man who worked tirelessly to continue the legend of his family. Besides his hard work, David gave generously to causes near and dear to Cincinnati’s heart.  I am proud to have had the opportunity to work so closely with him,” stated John Geisen, President and CEO of Izzy’s.  “He will be missed by his family and all of us who were fortunate to call him friend.”

A Visitation will be held for David Kadetz Tuesday April 19, 2011, 5pm until 8pm at Linnemann Funeral Home in Burlington, KY. A second visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, 10am until 11am at Hebron Lutheran Church in Hebron, KY with the service immediately following at 11am. Interment will be in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials can be sent to American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave. Staten Island, NY 10305 or American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, 120 Wall St. 22nd Floor New York, New York 10005. • “Izzy's is a great place. a staple of downtown Cincy. They are known for their Ruben. However I recommend the Izzy's Mex (spicier Ruben) or "The Suzzy" which is turkey and cranberry-orange relish with cream cheese... it's better than it sounds.”

  • “Had some quests from Columbus area and Andrian, MI and wanted to take them to a "local" restaurant. My grandson and I decided Izzy's in Forest Park was the choice. They LOVED it. First the delicious pickles and then the famous Ruben and potato pancake. The waitress was great, very friendly and we enjoyed her conversation with our questions. They were very impressed with the food and her. I wish I knew her name but she was the only waitress there. Then even bought a jar of pickles to take home.”

  • “I first started going to Izzys over 40 years ago. I remember Izzy working behind the counter across the street from WLWT. The food I had tonight was as good as when Izzy would hand me my sandwich in the 70s! ”

    Arch G. ★★★★★

  • “Mmm Reubens! I come here for a quick lunch and they are super friendly and prompt. I like to get the reuben salad. It is quite large and a very cool take on the traditional sandwich. It is jam packed with "good" lettuce, sauerkraut, grated swiss cheese, corned beef, chopped pickles, and topped with their homemade thousand island dressing. The cool finishing touch is rye bread croutons which seem to be homemade. They also have good sweet tea! ”
